Survey Survey.. Mari buat Survey

I want to do a little survey. Nope sorry, you won't get paid.

I was hopping over to Adrian's blog and he mentioned he walked into a condo showroom with a price tag around RM800k. Honestly, even if I sell my Ipoh house, my cars, my dogs and my body I also cannot afford RM800k. Please, don't ask me to borrow from bank with the full amount. I'll be eating bread crumbs every month just to make the installments and that's just the most optimistic view. For all I know, the bank won't even 'choi' me.

You see, there's a few rows of low cost houses near my place. Low cost here meant those houses are around RM30-50k. Well, you might say those are humble folks with limited 'means.' I thought that too... until I see their BMWs, Benz, Camry and Pajeros parked in front of their house. Obviously their cars are more expensive than their homes.

This is kisah benar. My friend's brother staying in those low cost flat near Taman Desa has a room mate driving a BMW. That BMW guy is renting a RM250/month room. Of course from my viewpoint I will say why on earth if you can afford a BMW you want to just rent a room? No offense to those peeps staying in the Tmn Desa flat, OK? I'm just looking at it from a logical standpoint.

We are of course taught from young to live within our means. But what I want to find out is, how much are you willing to fork out to buy your very own home?

Or.. you prefer to drive 300k cars and live in 30k homes? Drive Accord and rent room? Assuming you're those who can afford both, then it's a no brainer. What happen when you have to choose?

A long long time ago, a wise man told me that if I wanted to go places in the business/corporate world and close those big projects, I needed to invest in two things. A watch and a car that made a loud enuff statement.

People see ur car, they dun see ur house.

Ur car sort of gives people an idea how successful u are. Hence, some people will actually give u big business bcoz they deem u as someone who is successful in what u do. They don't know u go home everynite also eat maggi mee! :P :P :P

I too know a few people who drive brand new BMWs but live in modest single storey terrace houses. I guess Adrian explained the rationale quite logically.

But on a personal level, I can't bring myself to do that. A house is an investment, a car is a liability. Besides, have you ever heard anyone say that they are the "kings in their own car"? LOL

I would go for a nice house coz it's where I relax at the end of a hard day.. to me, a car is something to take me from point A to B... plus I have a tendency to drive a "bit" over the speed limit so it's safer to get a "basic" car :-)

Honestly, if I need to choose, I would go for an expensive house and drive a cheap car. Maybe I was brought up being too practical lah.... car depreciates....

Adrian - I guess you have a point. "Tai-meen' is everything to a businessman. Now maybe I should ask my hubby to buy a BMW. :-P But then it's a different story if you're just an employee. If you drive such nice cars, then your boss will think, "This guy is better off than me, so can screw his bonus.." lol

Lin Peh - Yeah hor, can drive your mobile home and parked next to DPM's house. You can then tell ppl you and DPM are neighbours. :-P

Anak merdeka - Yes, agree. Unless you're in business like Adrian said, it's better investment to own a house. Afterall, the moment your brand new BMW touch the road, the value will go down 20k.

tingtitlei - Racun him with nice cars? hahahaha Honest, your father is a prudent man. Prudent parents who spend wisely are the best parents. :-P The children then can live in nice house and drive nice cars...

Sting - Me too. Maybe I'm more homely. I know some guys are usually out 'entertaining' and only come home to sleep on the bed. lol
Woow, you're a speed devil, eh? :-)

l'abeille - You're into accounts right? So you'll bound to be practical. Nothing wrong with that. I agree with you and will do the same thing.

Shireen - WOw, I thought you'll choose the house over the car. :-P Hey, maybe you're already living in a nice house?... :-P

Ah Pek - PD properties will shoot up, right? (Free trade and free port) So in no time at all you'll trade in your 2 wheels for 4x4 wheels. :-P

Wuching - Yeap, I know. You and I are the kiamsap and sane people who want to have our feet firmly planted on the ground. lol

If I am asked to chose and given the option, I choose both.

If I am asked to chose one only, I choose car. House? Wife will buy. Woman will prefer house and I'll let her pay. hehehehehe

I prefer to have a nice home rather than a nice car la..

myself now old, also lo' profile. hv quite nice house, driving proton wira or accord (on loan fr family when I am home infrequently) to "deflect" attention mah!

BUT still did not deter damn fcuking burglars - kena awreddy 3x/14mths!

Was considering a good location monster "bungalo in sky" but as normal ahsoh walking in without datinship, 2carat on finger & sales ppl no f me.

Then as SPECIAL favor to me, they whipped out a 1st flr unit (2800sft) for RM2mil - where you can see everyone come and go -

& a high floor 3500sft for RM2.4..catch being water tanki for whole building just behind you lor!

I dunno 'bout "normal" ppl (LIKE ME) but seems like in KL, ppl with a spare few millions of change are clamoring and lining up outside the streets to buy these condos

Their "usual" clients (word "customer" too cheap lah!) buys 2 to 3 units wor!

SIGH...I think I miss calling in life..to be yee lai

Mother was so right.
Shoulda Married doctors, towkays..now too much of me and too little of them!!!

puhleeze ah potential burglars - ain't got nothing left in aunty's house to curi..except 42"sony from 1997. That one suckers still haven't stolen!
