Misc & Etc

Time is something I find lacking nowadays. Of course it's still no.2 on my 'lacking' list behind money. I do forsee things going back to normal in middle April. Until then, I won't be blogging as much as I want to. So, sorry lar, if I don't come to visit my kaki-bloggers' blog as much. Sorry.

Few things I want to share and shoot.

1. Firstly, some issue I had with a guest pastor in my church. I'm merely sharing my thoughts and if you're those over zealous Christian, you might want to skip to paragraph 2. I had reservations about putting this on my blog at first, but then, if I can't say what I think on my own blog, why the heck should I keep one?

Yesterday my church had this guest pastor from a 'big successful' church overseas. Because his church is the epitome of 'success' and riches, I guess the pastor was chosen to speak to us about giving ala tithes, offerings and lain lain. The pastor talked about how blessed he was and his church congregation got ministers, royalties and the son of a president. I hate this kind of preaching. The question is, SO WHAT?? Got royalties and ministers so? You'll get my respect more if your church got beggars and sinners.

While on the subject on giving, I just hate (50x) when people use the line 'give and you'll be blessed a hundred fold.." OK, OK I know people are going to say, a hundred fold might not necessarily translate to money or financial related stuff. It could be health, blessing, peace and joy... I agree. But then if the guy on the pulpit is sharing how much he has, big cars, big house, big church, big watch after he gives to the Lord, you can't exactly tell me he's not linking his financial gain to the fact he gives? As a Christian, I believe the act of giving is an ordained task. You're not asking and should rightly not so to expect reward for something you're supposed to do in the first place. I know, people do expect to get rewarded for their good deeds. That's human nature. But then for a man of God to put so much emphasize on the 'returns', I'm not comfortable. Some of the richest people I know who drives BMW, live in big houses, and in every sense of the word 'blessed' are not even Christian by faith. So, material gain or the concept of material gain after you give to the Lord should not be so emphasized. Instead of getting some rich, blessed people to go on stage to testify for the Lord, I would love to see a poor, downtrodden guy who had it tough in life to go on stage to testify. Really, how often do you see poor guys get invited on stage to tell how they persevere? No right? Honestly, if Paul the apostle is still alive today, I bet he'll never get invited to go on stage. Why? Not rich and successful in today's standard compared to peeps like Chua Jui Meng mar..

2. Talking about preaching, my husband gave me a gem of a retort the other day. Coming from him, I definitely want to put it on my blog. You see, I got a poodle. My poodle is everything I want in a dog when I was growing up watching Lassie. The only problem is, the poodle is only nice to me. Not anyone else. I was telling my husband how smart my dog is coz he seems to understand every word I said, hubby shook his head. Unimpressed, my husband retorted..

"Then it's time you preach the gospel to him lor..."

Good one.

3. My friend told me I can now get Kajang satay in Ipoh. Really? The foodcourt at the back of 24 hours McD in Gopeng road sells Kajang satay. So, being a satay fan, I drove there and bought some for the esteemed food critics in my family.

'Si-yeh' aka critic no.1 - OK lar.. prefers the Malay satay.

Critic 2 & 3 - Thumbs up. Good.
Sorry peeps, the satay sauce turned out in this picture like the contents inside your toilet bowl after food poisoning. Swear, it taste better than it looks...
Satay on romaine lettuce. I put the lettuce there so I can tell myself this still qualifies as salad. Satay salad. Completely guilt free.

Verdict: All 3 critics say it's good. There's plenty of meat and cost 60cents per stick. Finally, I asked the most important question, "Which one of you had actually tasted the real Kajang satay?"

NOT ONE. I guess as much.

4. Still more mundane stuff ahead. My terrapin got a lifestyle upgrade. When I moved into my new house 8 years ago, I thought I'll get myself a hassle free pet. Those little terrapins sounded perfect. Small and durable. (sounds like batteries) Little do I know, terrapins can grow quite big. So, if you think terrapins are small, think again. Not after a few years. My terrapin had outgrown my glass aquarium and the plastic basin.

I like it when you are harassed and short on time, you tend to write really nice long personal posts to detress yourself!!! LOL

Thanks for dropping by my blog even though you are so busy. I really appreciate it, coz I'm also guilty of not bloghopping due to time constraints.

Take care to enjoy your life in the midst of all the goings on. And write only because it gives you joy to do so. Because then the joy will spread to your readers like me!! ;-)

I am a Christian but I don't believe in giving. I live to fulfill a life which I didn't have a choice in coming to this world. I do what I want to do and if I think I love to give and help anyone, I just do it not because there's a God but because I love to do it. If God is fair to me, he should have made Lim Goh Tong my father or made him give half of his wealth to me. If the pastor wants to motivate the people to give, he's only using God's name. I am what I am and will do what I believed is right within the constraints of a civil society of which I had to co-exist.

i have the same thought as you. testimonies should come from the mouth of the down trodden, the poor, the sick, the marginalised....why? because despite their hardship and suffering, they still remain faithful in God's love for them. the hundred fold reward is better in heaven than on earth.

have you tried too-bak satay? tastes better.

Anak merdeka - Aiyoh, don't talk so very 'hak-hei'. I always enjoy your blog and your insight. :-)

adrian - Well, the same thing when I see hawker stall in KL with large signboard reading.."IPOH HORFUN" lol

Maverick - Money is still a sensitive issue even when it comes to org like churches. I do understand people need to give to upkeep the church expenses... but I'm not comfortable with the way they convey the message to the congregation. Remember the famed Malachi passage everytime there is donation? It's just so cliche... "DOnt rob God.." lol

Sting - Yeah, my pets live a better life than me. Sigh.. go figure. lol

ron jerem lee - Razak Baginda in church and not behind bars? Hey, you know something I don't? :-P

Wuching - don't say likedat lar. I signed up the survey thing liao.. Niamah, can only withdraw when it reach USD75.

Silverstar - What is too-bak satay? I've not heard of it.. Goood?? I'm having a sore throat from all the goreng food and satay. Now I just want to know what is too-bak satay. Will google it... lol

Of the 10 commandments, the 5th commandment is the only one that comes with a promise (see Deut 5:16).
And on the act of tithing or giving, it also comes with a promise (see Malachi 3:10).
And what God promised, He delivers. Agree?

Cheers.

Just tape te recording of that superstar pastor-lah, then add on; Practise what you preach X 10 times so he will get back 1,000-foldLoh!:) -- God save us from "most" preachers who are actually politicians in disguise. Me -- for te past 25 years, I read books and preach to myself. Like Mave -- no burden, and no need to go to church wan, so no chance of pastor making you put your hands up (your hubby's 2) when he asks who no no speak in tongue!:(+ :) so vve are balanced.

Your number 1 is dead on. I used to attend this church here in Kursk, Russia (there aren't a LOT to choose from) and one of the things that stopped me from going there was when the pastor held a money note in his hand, held it high and started saying,

'you give, you give, you give, oh Lord, we GIVE. We sow and we GET what we REAP!'

Something to that extent. If I want to donate, or if I see the need to do so, I will do it at my own will, my own accord, I don't see the need to justify it by saying you sow 10 Russian Rubles (that like 1.3 Ringgit) just to reap back something in the end.

What's the deal with that?

With your type of mentality and approach on tithes, preaching and the whole concept of church, I guess you make a better Catholic. I hope you've come across these beings, they tend to be more obscure and subdued...LOL.
