Child Neglect and Common Sense
This is one of those spontaneous 'thought' post I just write after reading this. Now, I won't talk about the plight of the poor parents and the brutal senseless death of their little girl splashing all over the newspapers. I'm going talk about it in general terms. If, it is written in our law, I can only say it is not only about 'them'. It has to be about 'us' in a general sense.
Child neglect is inside Child Act 2001.
Huh?
Now, please tell me I'm not the only one NOT heard of this Child Act 2001. This is the thing with the law. Everything is written in big big words mere mortals have no way to comprehend. Even Google dictionary won't be much help here. The thing is, if the law is for everyone, it should be made easily understandable by everybody. Hey, it affects us. It governs us. So, the people who need to understand above all else should be ordinary folks like us. Oops, you're not ordinary? Sorry, no offense. I was just being general.
Behind all those legal jargon, big words and all, the underlining rule of thumb for all should be nothing but just simple common sense. Remember common law? Common sense is a rare commodity nowadays. Yes, I know common sense can be at times subjective, but then with the word 'common', it should be rightly understood by all common folks. If people are having a hard time digesting it, it is definitely not common.
Talking about common sense and judging by the reaction on papers/blogosphere, it's reassuring to note the public is not lacking in this department. Those supposedly 'big' people hiding behind 'big' ranks and staying in 'big' houses and in power to make 'big' decisions are those lacking.
But then we can't blame them, right? They are not common. They are the authorities.

just saw a kid standing outside a pasar pagi today. she was all alone. dont these fuckers learn from the nurin case? ..
they should be charged for negligence .
It's common sense, and if they were enact that law, we'll need a bigger jail, and see more children standing outside pasar pagi and pasar malams.
tingtitlei - I agree parents should be wary. Honestly, you're one of my most honest commentator. I know you speak your mind so I'll be direct too :-)
Sometimes it's not so easy to differentiate black and white. I mean parents can be selfish and look after their own ass by just locking up their kids. But what kind of childhood would the child has? I agree parents who don't feed their children or send them to school are negligent. But what the authorities are implying here is way over the line .. :-)
Jonny - Yalor.. Our social structure is crumbling and its rotting from the roots..
I think people are consumed with careers and simply left their children on the back burner. Our society really needs to wake up. They should know that the responsibility of having children and raising them. Actually not so "shiok" to have kids then neglect them.. =(
Hi, wondering by passing through your blogging network, I could find the real parents of my wife who just found out that she was adopted. Is there a way for us to find out the truth what was happening in Ipoh 32 years ago?
In Genting Highlands there are public notices that warn the management has the right to take action against parents whose kids are lost and found by the security. For Nurin's case, the authority should find the murderer first before even coming out with "brilliant idea" like this, damned idiots.
Keeyit - Yeah, there is always the social balance to think about. :-) But then in any country, unless you're filthy rich, this is the dilemma faced by working parents. There is no one correct solution to all, so I guess all families facing this decision will have to come to the discretion best suited to their circumstances. :-)
Ano - thanks for dropping by. I'm going to state the obvious, if your wife is legally adopted, the paper trail might just be there. If not, it'll be hard. Does your wife now knows who her real parents are? If she has a name, you can always place an ad in the papers.
All the best to you and your wife. :-)
Ano - Genting does that? Thanks for pointing out. I've no idea. :-)
As for the authorities, they're famous for their finger pointing game.
sorryla..I just don't get it.
why it takes hours for our esteemed cops to catch some robbers who robbed some great big tansri/datuk, but takes 7 days for them to actually set up a team to hunt for the poor girl?
i don't get it. why so bummed? our nation is falling to pieces...in another 5 years time, we'll all see the rot already decaying...already too late......? can we be saved?
I want updates on what the authorities are doing to find the culprit not whether the parents should be held responsible. They are still mourning. The timing to make such statements is not right.
Tingtitlei, the kid at the pasar pagi was actually an undercover cop! :P
Mott - dun wait another 5 yrs lor.. we cepat cepat this election gau dim them..:-P Ooops, hope no ISA peeps lurking here...
Adrian - what was the phrase your little girl said? Hantu Kepala babi? :-P
*laughing at your reply to Tingtitlei* Yahor, maybe the little kid standing there is a trap to catch those perverts. Damn ingenious. lol
aiya...this election - what can I say? I'd vote for the opposition, but I know the majority will be brainwashed....no hope la. No hope la..
how? don't know why la.... i feel like in a despair over the state of our nation....
sorry yea..to vent out here..
i think we should really ask someone to publish the amount of legislation we have in this beautiful country. first we hea of the National Anthem Act 1988 and now we have the Child Act 2001?
what kinda fucking act they can think of next?
Mott - vent lar.. blogs are meant to vent one mia..lol
Zewt - susah.. it is changing all the time. Nobody knows what is happening with all the judiciary process. Hope the recent CJ matters will bring some glimmer of hope and restore our judiciary system. :-)
